Critical Reading Course

Description

Course Objective: High school students often face severe academic pressure and may not have enough time for effective reading to accumulate sufficient material, ideas, and personal literary connections to cope with the final writing tasks of IB and GP. This course aims to interpret classic works, increase rich writing materials and social emotional insights, and help students develop a rigorous and comprehensive essay writing system. The FE critical reading course integrates FE Western literature with critical thinking courses.

Under the guidance of a Ph.D. mentor in American literature, four selected works from world literary classics are chosen each term for comment-based reading, along with rigorous literary technique analysis and writing training.

Course Features:

• Through studying and analyzing various types and styles of classic works, students engage in discussions and develop their own writing ideas during each class.
• Deepen the understanding of organizing structure of arguments and evidence, and smooth expression of emotional thoughts, etc., laying a solid foundation for writing skills.
• Learn and practice writing essays, book reports, and creating works suitable for British literature exams, as well as other common types of school writing.
• Outside of class, by arranging targeted reading, students continue to appreciate classic works, broaden their reading perspectives, and enhance their comprehension and creativity.

The course will help students become more efficient and attractive “authors” with a background in classic literature. By comprehending specific works in British literature, students will develop analytical and writing skills that can be applied across different contexts. In changing exam formats, students will not only have substance in their writing, but also express themselves fluently, clearly, with rich details, and with a personal style.

Suitable for:
Middle school students aged between 13 and 16 who lack sufficient reading volume and writing output in their daily lives.

课程会帮助学生成为一个具备经典阅读经历，更高效和更有吸引力的 “作者”。学生将通过阅读理解英国文学中涉及的具体作品，具备举一反三的分析和写作能力，在套路逐渐发生变化的考试中，不仅言之有物，并且能够流畅，清晰，充满细节和有个人风格地表达自己。
